Although I knew about his efforts as a pioneer and an advocate I took my copy of Striper Wars to work last night and re-read the chapters documenting his efforts on behalf of the striped bass and the sport

His was an exemplary life

I had the chance to meet him with Habs and on a shelf over the workbench in my tackle room is an old eel squid with the Stripers Unlimited logo on it that Habs gave me

It reminded me that without Bob Pond's commitment we might likely not be doing what it is we are able to do now that is such a big part of our lives

Thank you, Mr Pond - rest easy, it was a life well-lived

My condolences to his family and friends

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
