Kinda what I figured, Paul - I've done the same thing following a long cold spell...

Hope you sent your clubs down too

I was thinking, don't know if you've ever made the trip over to Useppa Island - it would be a great day trip for you and the missus and friends. It was built as a tarpon camp (some camp!) by Collier for the same crowd that was in the great striped bass clubs in SE NE in the late 1800's and the bar and dining room is decorated with great photos, vintage tackle and signed tarpon scales with dates, weights and angler - pretty neat

You take a small ferry over from South Seas Plantation on Captiva and it's a nice day trip when the bite is off due to weather

My wife and I went over to Useppa for lunch at the Collier Inn with my cousin from Cape Coral and it was pretty nice - a few cocktails with fresh grouper for lunch, a walk around the island before the ferry came back - no cars, just carts like Cutty - great way to spend an afternoon

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
