I can't imagine any scenario where one would want to add a guide to a finished rod with the guides already spaced for 8. If you add a ninth you'd almost certainly want to strip off the existing guides and re-space the rod the for nine.

Unless this someone believes the stripper guide is too far from the reel. In that case the guide might be moved, but I still don't get the idea of adding a guide. Maybe someone knows better though.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
