As an aside, I quit hydro-orienting darters, bottles, and bottledarters. Instead I orient the grain vertically so there is no short grain in the lip that is likely to chip. I also think vertically oriented maple is less likely to split between the hook holes. That ought to jinx me.

Yeah, I thought about that, I've read that you did that. One proto I didn't hydro.... bad ju-ju. It laid on it's side. I suppose I could have only used blanks that showed less density variances... but it still scared me. Plus the metal "helmet" looks bad @sss
