I would try to find somebody that TIG welds local, and have them bring the transom back to where it was...then built up the inside with marine plywood..
pity they cut it.. hope it didn't permanatly comprimise the strength of the boat... they should have just shelled out the dough and got the kit to longshaft the motor, rather than cutting down the transom... ..
Was the hull rated to handle 40 horse originally?.. what length boat is it?

and yeah...sounds like it will fly!
