He is not going to take you to court. If he had the money for a lawyer you'd have a working dryer. No lease, no m oney. If you were not moving out you could make his life miserable. Thirty sevens years I have been wadiing through these civil disputes, which we really have no control over, but everyone who has something done wrong to them comes to the local P.D. and then walks away disappointed when they are told it is a civil issue. Your situation smells though. I have seen disputes like this go on for ever because the tenant says screw them I am going to stay forever, and some actually try to stay forever, costing the landlord a bundle.

Not for nothing though, I have seen some really well-meaning property owners get saddled with individuals as tenants that are professionals at getting stuff for free. Your landlord is obviously troubled financially and is using you both.
