Yes, it is that time again. Swamps are teeming with larvae! The Mosquito Control uses liquid BTI, although in a different concentration than the dunks. BTI works but keep in mind that breeding will continue in the site as long as there is standing water, so you need to maintain it throughout the season.
Also BTI only kills larvae up to a certain stage. When they become pupae they do not feed.
If you are concerned about the ammount of mosquitoes in your area call the Mosquito Control office and they will send out a crew to assess your situation.
A lot of people used to tell me about the use of dielsel fuel. It works by smothering the larvae. We use something like a mineral oil which does the same thing but in a far less environmentally destructive manner. I don't recommend spraying diesel fuel in any body of water. It works but thats not a good thing to be doing at all!
Much of the winter work we do, like ditch maintenence, cuts down on the amount of pesticide that needs to be applied during the breeding season. So less chemicals in my opinion is a good thing.
