Unfortunately the glut of celeb-reality shows has tainted what could have been a number of untapped markets.
Now you have self-deluted characters that are more attuned to the cameras than their crews.
You have shows like "Ice Road Truckers", "Ax Men", "Swamp Loggers" and a few others that the "captains" or "foremen" are definitely playing up to the cameras more than they should.
If it hasn't already happened, it won't be long before the History Channel and Discovery Channel become just another TLC.
(It's no longer called/considered "The Learning Channel" since there is nothing educational on it any longer.)
The premise of "Deadliest Catch" was unique and bold in the beginning, but the novelty has worn off, and some viewers only check in when someone gets hurt or dies.
It's the car-crash mentality: slow down to see what happened, but don't stop. Channel surf around, but only stop and watch when there is a big diaster/problem.
