to kill poison IVY

there's three methods to win the war......

First you have to locate the BIGGEST vines usually growing
up trees and they have very easy to distinguish brown hairy
roots growing (attaching itself) to the BARK
and CUT them clean with a very sharp axe so as not to splatter
sap back at you......requiring one clean chop.

This is because they (the biggest vines) make tiny blue berry clusters that birds eat
and crap everywhere spreading it all over the place.

Second you have to smother it (a patch) to death with black plastic
to prevent any sunlight from getting thru then cover that with
rock , sand, dirt or whatever heavy material you have around to anchor it down with
......so it won't blow away.

Third ...you spray it with round up weed killer on sale at wally world for $15 buckaroonies
in its own pump up and spray bottle.

this is a systemic weed killer that is absorbed through the leaves and goes down
to the roots and kills it. The spring leaves are easier to penetrate with the weed killer
because it is new growth.

Usually you need 4 consecutive days of sunshine afterwards for it to work
GOOD or you'll have to re-apply it again....

On this property there were hundreds of stalk vines standing up
30 inches tall trying to compete with the barb wire like bittersweet vine so i chose to cut them low
to the ground to make smothering out that much easier plus i am spraying any leaves i see.

next, i will dig holes every 30 inches and plant sunflowers
and cor n to shade it out and create a wind break at the same time.

For me: all i have to do is look at poison ivy and flip it the bird
and the next day i have it.... so it's a real WAR
