Are we visable enough? I wave my bright yellow paddle blade above my head a few times when I see boaters in my vicinity. If you wave back(not just to be freindly) it tells me you have seen me and I can concentrate on staying out of your intended path.
In open water situations, I sometimes have difficulty judging the direction a boat will take. Its scary when I have taken evasive action to avoid being in a boats path and then still not being sure what side it will eventualy pass.
As far as marked chanels, I stay out of them whenever possible, and when it's not I paddle as quickly as I can to get out of there.
