WOODS HOLE, Mass. -- Two boaters are safe after being stranded on an island off Cape Cod Saturday night.
The Coast Guard says Avery Smith of Canaan, N.H., and another man were anchored off Naushon Island when waves hit their 20-foot boat, snapped the anchor line and pushed it on shore.
Smith sent a distress signal around 11:30 Saturday night, but did not give a location. The Coast Guard advised other boaters to be on the lookout, and around 6 a.m. Sunday morning someone on a ferry spotted signal flares.
The men were picked up by a fishing boat and transferred to a Coast Guard cutter.
The men were cold and tired, but unhurt, after spending the night in the rain with no cover.
