The line/weight/blahblahblah thing is why I fish surface with balloons or fish the bottom with no weight on at all (drifting rules)
Although drifting you tend to get alot of crabs hanging out as you would a hi/lo...
But on the same line (ha ha pun) having it free allows the fish to pick up the bait and run with minimal load/spook factor...
One of the reasons i like the fishfinder....
