My first ever striper was caught Tuesday using a slice of frozen mack - 3/8 - 1/2 inch thick and a circle hook tied on the line. No weights, swivels, clips, or other hardware. Even with the crosswind I was able to get about 30-40 yards. Throwing with the wind later more than doubled that.

The fresh mack lost about half it's casting weight after the second toss due to the guts falling off. The frozen kept together longer and seemed to suspend in the water more. It also got more hits than the fresh.

I did find that the fish swallowed the circle hook and with the curve removal was not possible. I hope it comes out OK in the end. -- yeowch!! I am curious as to how fast a hook breaks down when iimbeded in a fish.

I am by no means an expert. We shall see what Saturday brings.
