I carry a bottle of iodine in my tackle box. It stings like hell but it prevents a lot of infections. Washing your hand in saltwater after a cut or puncture wound is not good but sometimes the only solution. Then apply iodine and let it dry before you continue fishing. Iodine are less efficient on puncture wounds than on scrapes and cuts.
