Have heard that version for years but did actually see this happen at Third Beach in Newport the summer before last:
A couple of gold chain wearin' Vinnies in a black Navigator backed a tandem trailer down the boat ramp to haul their jet skis. The tide was dead Spring low and the base of the ramp was exposed but they couldn't wait sooooo...off the bottom of the ramp they went, into the mud and slid backwards into the water right up to the door handles!! The Navigator ran for about 15 sec. then BLUB, BLUB, BL.....
Oh yeah, forgot to tell you the best part - the rear hatch was OPEN!!!!! Minutes later a cop, a tow truck AND a "Green Shirt" from the Depart of Environmental Management (DEM) show up.
I'll bet that was an expensive day on the water!!
