When the Coasties board you and you tell them where the weapon is they just get the weapon, clear it of any ammo and lay the ammo back where it was and hold the weapon until they check the boat along with your LTC card. Yep! big factor is the last part
It's not a big deal as long as it's legit. And as far as a reason.. if it makes you feel comfortable or safer... do it! You don't need to justify yourself to anyone..unless ya use it
