Just wanted to thank you guys for your comments, tips, and advice. I just got word from the mechanic (Tripp Marine, Wesport Ma. )...that he GIVES UP!!???...What's up with that? I've never heard of a mechanic "giving up"

I hate to discredit him, BUT!!...

He claims the lower gear unit stripped the upper gear unit and he has no clue as to why. He's afraid to go any further.

...I'm about to plant a flower above this money pit.
