I agree, check for insurance and get references.
We had a locust tree cut down a couple years back.
It was at least 50' tall, and the truck was a good 4-5' around.
The company we went with charged $600, but we had them leave the bigger branches and truck and we cut that up for firewood.
We still have some of the wood leftover to this day.

If you want to keep the wood for burning, it may cost a little less than average, since they won't have to haul it away, but if they have someone that is looking for wood (to burn) and you don't want it, you may be able to strike a deal as well.
