They get a bad rap because they have some really cheap models, but they also make some that are well made and a good value. Some guys think if a reel isn't expensive it must suck. I used a Salina on the boat for 2 years and all I ever did was give it a quick fresh water rinse after each use. Then I took used it for a year in the surf and it was dunked a bunch of times and had no problems. I put it away one fall and forgot to rinse or lube it. When I grabbed it the next spring and brought it back on the boat, the handle was seized up. I busted the handle when I tried to loosen it up and threw it away. I definitely got my money's worth with it and would buy another one if I needed another reel. The new Okuma that was in OTW this month looks pretty interesting, too.
