I bought an LG brand LCD over 2 years ago , in fact it may have been 3 years on Memorial Day. Thing is great. not even a dead pixel in all this time. I also have a 4 or more year old Samsung that is also running like new.
Be sure to get 3 or 4 HDMI inputs as that what most new things use. I think the safest bets for brands are LG and Samsung. Sony stuff is always nice new but I have not pound there stuff to last all that long.
I vote LCD or maybe its LED now but not plasma. I think the LCD/LED ones will last forever.
