Don't trick it out til you can control it with all the breaks in. Try casting with your etyes closed. until you get the feel of the reel , you shouldn't try reaching a spot. just cast so as to definitely not overrun and then after about 50 successful casts , start building distance by catching it further back in the cast and gradually increasing the length of your casting tail.. remember that down time costs you more than short casts so avoid overruns..
