Absolutely right Schoolie,
Don't get me wrong, I feel for these people. Accidents are accidents and they can happen to the best of us. When it is our time then it is..........
It boggles my mind that people can be so inept, poorly informed or plain unsupervisory. We all know that children are a handful to keep track of and it is SO sad when something terrible like this happens.
5 or 6 years ago a big swell arrived down here and all the warnings were up. I am into surfing and am a strong swimmer but it was pretty rough that day. two tourists got swept off and wore themselves out and drowned. Fighting a rip current is many times a losing battle. Well, Cam Neely and another Bruin were down here and both got swept out only to barely make it back. It scared the living crap out of them and made them aware of the intense danger that the ocean holds.
It blows my mind that people think the beach is like a wading pool some days. I WILL NOT bring out amateur/beginners surfcasting, especially at night without STRICT instructions and repeated commentary about PAYING ATTENTION AND NOT FORGETTING THAT WAVES COME OUT OF NOWHERE AND CAN KNOCK YOU OFF THE BEACH AND PRETTY MUCH END THE FUN, QUICK !
Darwinism is very sad when it is a human life at stake. Somehow, when it is an animal, we accept it.
Life guards were VERY busy down here this weekend and it was barely headhigh. People got into all sorts of trouble. Weak swimmers, poor judgement. Just plain ignorance.
Here to continued respect for Mother Ocean and what she is capable of.
God Bless the unfortunate
