Swimming or wading neck deep with a bag floating all over the place is a huge pain in the ass.

Also, mounting to the belt in addition to the shoulder strap helps to place some of the bag's weight on your hips and less on your upper back.

I had a bag made with stainless steel rings on the back. These rings attach to clips on my belt. The bag can slide on the belt as needed. I have been beyond happy with this system. My back is MUCH less sore after a long night and the bag is always under control.
