I got an open end wrench that was the same diameter as the lower male section where the two parts joined and gave it progressively harder taps untill it came loose. I wrapped the top section in a towel so it wouldn't get damaged if it flew off so I could hold the bottom section and wrench and use the hammer. It was scarry but it worked. I kow make sure to wipe the male section on the skin around my nose to lubricate the joint, haven't had an issue since.
