I'd think that the majority of criticism leveled at Obama is from legitimate ideological differences or expectation based observations. That being said, there also does appear to be a sustained effort to undermine his credibility based on his race.
As for evidence, one needs to look no further than the Right Wing initiative to frame Obama as not "American" because of his name, his birth cirtificate, his religion etc...this is all about racism.
What's sad is that it works, not only for the real racists but also tapping into more mainstream fears that in most people are repressed.
