do not use any "horse" manure because you will
overwhelm your garden spot with undigested weed
seeds and eventually loose the battle.

now with lettuce ....you'll need to have several
spots because you don't want it all becoming ready at once

i use a vitamin B-1 solution like super thrive
(makes roots grow 100 times faster)
and
some maxi-crop for the seaweed's minerals
this gives them extra vigor and resistance to bugs

it's not like you can preserve it
...so think succession planting

the critical thing is spacing so that you create
a micro climate where the outside leaves just touch
shading out the spaces for weeds to grow.

Lettuce loves to be transplanted
but when 4 inches tall
do both: direct seeding and a flat
to fill in empty spots
