We chose fork length just to avoid all the bull associated with squeezing the tail. Some do , some don't , how much , etc. For a fork length , you don't manipulate the fish at all. Just put the end of the tape on the nose and read a number at the v of the fork. Ive seen guys stroke that tail for 5 minutes trying for 1/4 inch and then the fish is dead . Fork length is quick and easy.
