Aaahhh....finally some fish! Out this morning in Scituate by one of the "Cliffs"....with my brand new, virgin, never caught fish on it before, conventional rod. It is a Lami model #PSB 108 1L
that I started to build after taking a rod building class. I finished the cork rod butt, (cork rings not tape) but I did not have the space to setup to do the guides and rod wrap etc., so I had someone finish it for me and it came out beautiful. I put on an Abu 6500 Big Game and 15# test mono. Conventional rods are very new to me having used spinning gear all my life. So I get to my spot, and on about the 10th cast I see a fish trailing my 1oz. pencil popper and all of a sudden...BANG..fish on, and that rod handled so good I thought I died and went to heaven. Fish was a keeper to boot, measured 29" and a fattie. Kissed it and let it go. Had another swirl but that was it. I felt like I have been using conventional gear my whole life I was so comfortable casting, and I must say I did a nice job on the rod butt. Rod was built specifically for 1 oz. pencil poppers as I love to fish topwater. So...needless to say I had a great morning, just thought I would share with you folks. My spinning gear should be for sale shortly.
