If you are chartering a guide, and want to fly fish for the tarpon - the guides will just run north or south to find the fish from Fort Myers up past Gasparilla Island - we used to launch on the ramp located just on the inside of the toll booth to get over to Sanibel - if the La Quinta hotel you are referring to is the hotel one would pass just before getting to the toll booth (as it used to be a Best Western), that little road that borders the hotel heads down to a beach that can be good for wading for redfish and snook at low light periods and a low incoming tide.

But do agree that fishing Boca Grande Pass can be a nightmare to fish with the crazy crowds.

The first time I fished down there in the late 80s - I have always fished with Capt Mike Rehr on Sanibel - most excellent guide - there were only two other boats fly fishing the pods of tarpon moving out front of the islands there heading toward Boca Grande Pass - today, i can only imagine the crowds, as I have not been down there since my daughter was born.
