Weather happens. The alternative was that you tie the low altitude record.
Someone I respected had the similar issue a few months back. Weather below minimums and exaggerated loss of fuel. The alternative airport was below minimums. He is no longer with us.
Yes, it sucks, yes it inconvenient. But it is there for a reason.
