Went to the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset last night to see Robert Cray as I am a huge Blues fan. Anyway, I know alot about blues but not everything. I know quite alot about the kind of blues I generally listen to, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, you get the point. So the opening act for Robert Cray was John Hiatt and his new band The Goners. I know who John Hiatt is and I also knew that he is one of the greatest songwriters in history but I really had never listened to much of his music. So John Hiatt comes on and they were just %&$#@* awesome. Straight ahead rock and blues with lots of fantastic slide guitar, I was amazed. I now am a huge John Hiatt fan and am going out today to pick up a few CD's. His band set the place on fire and then Robert Cray came out and could barely fan the flames. I have seen Robert Cray about six times and he is always a good show but never a great show. He does not travel with a horn section which is a huge mistake considering his music is full of horns, and he always lacks any emotion when he is playing. Very matter of fact even though his solos are incredible. See John Hiatt if you ever get a chance, he had the crowd going nuts. Later.
