If you are smart you will rebuild your GSBs with a newer guide system and fish them a bit first.

The canal aside, catching big fish with plugs or eels is a lot more about endurance than casting distance. That is where the GSB's with a light guide setup are very hard to beat. The real issue with GSB's is that most of them out there are built with large heavy guides and suck to fish.
