Feb 6 CT Surfcasters Meeting- James Prosek

So there is this guy named James Prosek from Easton Connecticut.

You may have heard of his book “Eels, an Exploration from New Zealand to the Sargasso”

But in addition to that he is kind of a rock star of the Wildlife Art world being called the Audubon on the Fishing Work by the NY Times. His watercolors are included in “Trout and Illustrated History” of 70 North American trout published when he was 19, “World Trout” a book of his paintings of 100 species of Trout from around the world and now recently published “Ocean Fishes”. The new book shows 35 species of ocean fishes he painted that he caught or witnessed live coming out of the water from a 14 inch porgy to a 12 ½ foot Blue Marlin.

His Art has been exhibited in major museums all over the world.

But he is not just an artist, he co-founded the Yale Anglers Journal, is an author of many books including, “A Connecticut Yankee Follows the Footsteps of Izaak Walton” which was made into a documentary for which he won a Peabody Award. “Joe and Me” and Fly Fishing the 41st Parallel from Connecticut to Mongolia” telling of his fishing for Trout across Europe and Asia.

In 2004 he co-founded World Trout with Patagonia Founder Yvon Chouinard to protect fish by raising money through sales of Patagonia T-Shirts with Prosek art designs for organizations including Stripers Forever.

In addition to an artist and an author he is a musician in the group TroutBand with a recent Album Monkey Wedding. What??

He is associated with Peabody Museum and gets to do stuff like fly to some country called Suriname to try to catch Trout in the largest rain forest in South America. He speaks and sells out the Explorers Club in NY and writes for the New York Times and National Geographic.

And now he is coming to the Connecticut Surfcasters to talk about "Ocean Fishes" and other thoughts of the Fishing World. Books will be available for purchase and autographed.

this guy has talent or as my son would say Mad Skills. And he is only 35

His website is full of all sorts of stuff he has done that is just crazy.

So I asked him if he was really a highly evolved life form from another galaxy who came here posing as a human to fish and he laughed but said- "Yep"

Meeting is at Madison Town Surf Club 7 pm. no admission fee to get in. Don't have to be a member.
