The very best thing that could save your life doesn't go on your belt. It's an inflatable pfd. As long as you aren't swimming out to rocks I would get a Auto hydrostatic model. Also I would put an ACR Rapidfire pull-pin inflatable pfd strobe rolled up in it. If you swim a lot, get a manual inflatable.
