Start with pine and poplar. Cheap and easy to get. Curbside shopping acceptable. Some old furniture is sugar pine! Table legs, chairs, ballusters etc are good sources... That's how I get most of my maple.... We'll get you set up and turning, then we'll worry about spending money on the "right" wood....
