I would argue that your assertion, as you phrased it, does diminish somewhat the incredible acts of heroism our services members do demonstrate.

That being said, given the objectives stated in the CNN article RIJIMMY linked to, I don't think the mission being executed by the US Government really fits the profile being used to select nominees.

By this measure the military doesn't really fit. Grassroots fundraising to send our troops gifts (like body armour) is certinaly a generous behavior, but on an individual scale impacts limited people.

So I think RIJIMMY might just have to suck it up and admit he was wrong on this one.
