Bald Eagle Banding

This week my son had a rare opportunity to work with Mass Wildlife at his school. He goes to Bristol County Agriculture High School, in the Natural Resource program, and they monitor the eagles nest at the school. Usually he is collecting data with the drone which had an inferred camera and can detect heat in the eggs and collect other vital data from high above the nest. A little over 5 weeks ago the one egg in the nest hatched. Its still too young to determine the sex of the bird. The banded it with a state and federal band, got a blood sample, weighed it (just over 7 pounds) and chipped it for tracking. He came home super excited! It was cool to see him so enthusiastic about what he had encountered. Great school for him, it fits him perfect. Next year is his senior year and he is looking at becoming a wildlife biologist working with animals or reptiles....as long as the school has a baseball team.LOL
