Alot of the people I see purchasing lottery tickets don't look too full of ambition. I see online poker as a lazy way to play the lottery. So yes, I see it hurting town revenues.
We're definitely on the same page when it comes to your first point. I was in the self-checkout at Stop&Shop once and the person in front of me bought a pack of gum, got cash back from their EBT card (first thing that blew my mind) and then I passed them at the customer service desk buying cigarettes and scratch tickets.

On the second, I don't really see online poker as a replacement for the lottery. Definitely gambling, but it's nothing like putting $5 down at the corner store and hoping your number gets pulled. I've played a lot of poker online and in the casino and sit down with a "me vs them" mentality. My odds are only as good my play is.

There's a reason the same dozen or so people always place in-the-money at the World Series of Poker.
