I had a kayak fishing weekend.

I hit Duxbury Bay on Saturday morning and spent 4 hours without a bite, or hint of a fish. It was still nice to hit the water before all the boats headed out.
Sunday I decided to hit the fresh for some morning and evening bass action. I hit Heards Pond in Wayland both times, and had as much fun trolling for crappies as I did slinging plastic frogs for bucket mouths.
I'll tell you, nothing beats the thrill of seeing and feeling a surface strike, whether it's fresh or salt. I did manage 5 bass and 5 crappie for the day. The largest was a 4 lb. bass that couldn't resist my "thumpin toad" lure - a plastic frog with paddle-tail feet rigged with a 3/0 weedless worm hook (which also rigs up weedless on the frog).

I love my 'yak since it allows me the freedom to fish a lot of waters I couldn't in my old jonboat. I REALLY like getting right into the backwater marshes and swamps where some of the fish have NEVER seen a hook. That's my kind of fishing!
