Live there a bit before you decide.

We have three zones, finished basement that isn't used a ton, so that is programmed (using the free basic programmable we got from our oil vendor) to be in the 50's all winter, and warms up quick if we want to play down there. Anything else would be a waste.

Our upstairs zone, with the open-ish floor plan rarely gets turned on (not at all this winter) as the warm air from the pellet stove rises to the kids room. We put an automatic on it when we moved in, and while not expensive, it wasn't needed.
