I admit, I am uncertain who to cheer for here. The Landlord is getting screwed by the "Undocumented Tenants" and loses his mortgage because the person here illegally cannot pay. The tenant is screwed because the Landlord is coercing a tenant. Frankly tenant protection laws ARE too favorable to tenant.
Now one helpful solution would have been to do a background and FICO check on the prospective te.... Ohhh wait.
Well maybe they have documentation from someone else that has a good recor..... Ohhh wait.
