your right... what creates the wobble is the drive belt pulling down which is just enough for a snug wood hole to create a crappy wobble.

I've had a little luck with, in a matter of speaking, doing what you suggest by buidling up the sleeve of the chuck shaft.... this is with wood though... so, though it helps the wobble...it is still there.
