First thing you gotta do is kill a raccoon for a hat or in your case water ratt.

Black powder is fun shoot and awsome at long range but it requires ALL of your attention. You always want to be aware of the job at hand . It is very easy to put in two projectiles(slugs) in stead of one. After detirmining the amount of black power and slug combinatin you'll seat it with your ram rod against breach plug, you will know it is well seated if you can't hear your black power pellets rattling, with your ram rod in the barrel, mark it or scratch it at the top of your barrel, this mark will be the mark you want to reach each and every time you load your gun. If you are at the range and you question whether you have loaded your gun or not sure of the amount of pellets or slugs just put the ram rod in and see if it reaches the mark. This tip alone could prevent serious bodily injury or death. Any questions let me know.

I assume your gonna use the pyrodex or 777 pellets, way to go IMO. Easy to load they make preloaders that make it easy in the field. They make them in 30 grain and 50 grain. The size slug and combination of grains you use is all up to you. For deer 50 cal. with around 100 grains of black powder is very common. I use 2/30 grain pellets and 1/50 grain pellet this eqauls 110. If you hunt areas that have the long range like feilds ect. you might want the 130 or 150 everybody's got different opions on this. Accpect more kick with those grains.

Clean. Black powder is highly corrosive, it eats barrels for lunch. After shooting clean your gun right away. I fill the sink with warm soapy water then place the barrel in the water...with the cleaning rod suck water all the way up the barrel then down.. up down.. up down. Then I use bore butter. Everybody has their opinions on what to use. IMO if you can get a stainless barrel very worth the $$. Earlier this year I broke the breach plug wrench that came with gun trying to get the plug off. You should loosen the plug after the season.

During your range shooting, run bore butter and cleaner after 2-3 shots. You must do this in order to have your gun shoot consistently and it makes loading much easier.

Being that BP so effect at 100 yrds(easy) a scope sure is nice

Good luck Man and Merry Christmas
