if all you are doing is mowing.. you can find a JD from a dealer for <1500.. they have recommendations for different size lawns.. I went from .5 acres to 3.5 and my D105 couldnt handle it... soooo I financed a x530 and its a BEAST.. I always here dont go with a HD version of a john deere but my D105 was set up by the dealer near the house (had a sticker on it saying "Set up by Rosencrantz and Sons" The dealer ALSO sells the D105.. That said, it is the lowest model you can buy. Perfectly fine for under and acre.. My point is, I think the same parts are under the hood..not 100% sure though. So I guess the answer depends on what you want to do. Go to a dealer and talk to them. I got mine from http://www.nhtractor.com/ -- they were very helpful... Got the 48inch snow thrower too.. Its going to make snowblowing fun this year!. good luck.
