The hole is drilled into the wooden block. Then insert the metal spacer that comes with the endlink. Grease it up real good, then pass the bolt through and use as much or as few spacers as necessary. In order to keep the chuck in the right spot, I used a lock nut on the wooden side and a washer/nut combo on the inside of the chuck.

heres a pic of what you'll get from the autoparts store. the metal spacer in the middle of the assembly is what goes through the wood.
