Could have also been a night terror. I've had both panic attacks and terrors and 9 out 10 times it has always been due to stress, either long term or just a day with extraordinary circumstances.
Pretty much is a sign of the body saying it can't take much more of whatever it's been exposed to.
Some lifestyle changes usually give the fix like knowing the trigger, calming yourself before you go to sleep, sleep habits (including what you see on TV before you sleep), overall calming yourself, looking over current medications and/or supplements you are taking, and your diet (I'm not just talking about caffeine or alcohol, the whole thing).
Trust me, even when we think we are calm and we have an issue, our body isn't.
If it's that much of a concern, see a doctor but the rest is up to you. The number 1 thing is to not worry about it coming back because that can trigger another event.
