I've never heard of painted ping pong balls but it could have merit...some guy's use hole covers...I've tried them made of rubber roofing but just never cared for them. I bought a few commercially made ones. I didn't like those either.. what does help...is to wrap the lower half of your tip ups with black electrical tape... the UV rays from the sun keep the ice from forming and sticking to your tip up. It's a trick that I learned from an old timer over 50 years ago... it's served me well for many years..

A good run is better than a bad stand!
