I started with free wood scraps from work,, Mahogony.. Big Mistake for rookie . try thru drilling that straight ..,Then I bought a giant pile of belly grommets with big re enforced ring around them ..No Good ..they wouldn't wrap around plug..Painting ... wanted to get them done as fast as possible... sealed,,primed,,painted,,spar varnish ,,and epoxy all in about 2 hours time ... Plugs peeled like bananas... Every coat let dry a whole 24 hours before the next no matter what the can says... I became discouraged and didn't try agian for a year .. studied ..lurked..peeked in windows ,,,now I'm back ,,

The big Don'ts
I am still learning with every plug that I make. I have found the most important thing for me is swimm a plug before you make ten like it. If I can't swim it I'm not making anymore until I can or I'm just cutting the bodies but not putting in the lead yet.
Also don't expect miracles with the air brush yet. I sure don't!
Hope this helps

don'y drink and drill.
drinking and spinning is ok
drinking and painting is ok
drinking and epoxying is ok
drinking and drilling is the biggest killer of well spun wood in the world today. please, join the fight to prevent it
thank you

I would also JUST SAY NO to the drinking and spinning as well.
