Angling history
Doing some reading, I just came across this bit of angling history. At the time, largest fish ever taken on rod and reel.
On April 21, 1959, Alfred Dean--without benefit of a fighting chair, or even a boat--landed a 2,664-pound white shark while fishing from a beach at Ceduna, South Australia.
Now that's surfcasting!

justplugit--no, nothing else was said. It's hard to picture the scene of a fish that size coming up onto the beach. He must of had a real landing party for that one.
Could have fought the fish for days.
The IGFA archives might say something about it.

Since I was a child I always marvelled at that photo in the Guinness Book of World records.
Then they showed the one Mundis (sp) whacked off Montauk.

Eben--it's not by Mundus, it's about Mundus.
Good read.
His book--monster shark fishing is a classic, very intertaing,because Mundus is such a character.
When the blackfish are around (he called pilot whales blackfish), the white shark aint far behind.
And what do you think he used to bait up a white shark?

Good Book, kind of a choppy read, but story made up for it... What kind of guy gets out and stands on a dead whale, while whites swim around....
Same guy that paints his toenails red and green for port starboard I guess...  |
