Bass 1, Beach Chasers 0, Ditch Chasers ??

Bass 1, Beach Chasers 0, Ditch ??

Had a great time at the first leg of the Striped-Bass.Com tourney with a baker's dozen showing up for the cook out (which was a filling blast) and several others floating in & out of the tourney...

The cookout was kicked off with Slipknot unloading TWO gas grilles from the back of his mobile command post to cook up the afternoon's feast. Steve in Mass got us going with Shrimp Coctail and bringing the garden to top off the burgers. GS brought along many ears of corn and and then plenty of burgers and dogs for all. Saltheart's Suicide Strawberry desert ended the cookout with about half passed out in food coma looking up at the sun... Great stuff...

A few had had some fish earlier in the day working the Ditch and a few headed off to work the ditch again while the rest of us headed out to Chatham to try our luck.

Well, I think the luck was with the Ditch boys as we dredged several spots in Chatham without a hit. The tides and the Fish Gods were against us when we wrapped at very early morning without a chance to do CPR on a bass... Bass 1, Chasers 0

I want to thank everyone that could show as we did have a lot of fun, worked a couple new spots and got to watch Slipknot get soaked when he found a hole with just hippers on :P . But the fish won last night's event angainst the beach Chasers but we'll be back for round two, down in Rhody in a few weeks!!!

Still waiting to see how the rest of the ditch crew made out...

Thanks Everybody!!!

Had a great time. The barbecue was awesome.Where can you go and dine on the shore eating all you can eat shrimp cocktail , sweat corn , burgers and gourmet hot dogs and strawberry shortcake till you burst! I got the one fish yesterday and one this morning. Not a skunk but nothing big to brag about. Had a good time.

Fishing was slow at the Ditch Saturday morning but did OK. Hit the Stone Church around 3:30 had one bass come completly out of the water twice less than ten feet away, scaring thes#%& out of me. Got him 25" moved East and got a 29" both on shads. After daybreak had some fish chasing macs but they refused to eat. Went by Pips to look for Saltheart but lots of guys there didn't reconize him from his pic headed west. Found a fresh half of mac ang got somie pogies to chunk. Hit one of my chunking holes and got three fish quick largest going 29" fishing died around 9 and was home by 11:30. Not many fish caught but saw some small keepers that guys were getting on sandeels around the Scusset seawall. Fresh macs got you into fish if you could get some. Pluggers and jiggers looked a little frustrated. Glad everyone had a good time looking forward to making the next event.

I think I'm still recovering from the 2 strawberry shortcake deserts I had....yum. I agree with you clamdigger, too much walking for an older boat fart like me and not enough catching, but I guess that's why they call it fishing. How many times have you heard that one...lol.

Good food and company made it worthwhile, even if we did go fishless.

Well guys, I kind of figured that was a long walk, and that's why I bailed when I did. The old knees just ain't what they used to be. The 10 years in the supermarket in the 70's and 80's really did a job on them.

Anyway, I went to Powder Point after I left. Of course, at about 11:30 the Harbor Master's flunky was still there and wouldn't let me park oceanside, so I parked on the bayside and got a power nap waiting for the tide. Fished the bay from 12:30 to about 2:15, and got my only fish of the night, a nice fat 25" er. She put up a really good fight, I thought she'd be a lot bigger than she was.

Did the ocean side from about 2:30 to 5:30 with a couple of hits. However, I think the majority were skate hits, as they were real light and fussy, and at about 4:30 I finally managed to pull in one of those potato sacks.

It was great to meet everybody, your a wonderful group, and thanks John for setting it up.

Slipknot - I somehow knew you were gonna be damp.

I was happy to do it and VERY appreciative of all the help I got from everyone...

Yep, that walk sucked but that was the short Chatham walk for no fish. The other, LONG Chatham walk was on the other side... If FW tells us that she slammed big fish on the other side of Chatham, I'm going to leap from the high-rise office building that I work in (I'm only on the second floor though )...

I spoke to the wife and the cookout for the Rhody leg will be at my house... Speaking of the Rhody leg - large fish WILL be caught!!!

Yaa it was good to see all you guys again and nice to meet you Steve in Mass. The food was excellant. Next one will have to have better tides and some fish around.
Sounds like the ditch fish were setting their appitite on macs.
I got to the ditch before 3 and they were still charging 7 bucks so I killed a 1/2 hour at the Sagamore bridge and managed to jig up 1 ten pounder before setting up the grilles. After Chris dropped me off after midnight I hit it again till 2:30, the bait guys weren't even scoring. At least Ray got his keeper.

Smokey and I had breakfast Sunday morning with JPowers and Harrible. Jay had gotten one 18 pounds that morning.

We jigged all morning (even got there a little earlier than Sat AM but only the one fish for Sunday which was smaller than the one Sat. The real discouraging thing was no hits. Other than the 2 fish I hooked , I don't think I got even 5 more bumps all weekend. That's the luck.

I have to say those shrimp cocktails were excellent. Nice big tasty shrimp in sauce with horseradish. We should do it again tomorrow!!

Glad to hear everyone had fun. John, I'm sorry I didn't come down.

Just didn't have an all-nighter in me with the wife, kid and myself being sick for the better part of the past month.

I just fished local for a few hours Saturday evening and had a peaceful night of sleep.
